Anne Sinkey, MSW

Individual and Relationship Therapist
Philosophy and Approach:
Humans are amazingly creative, adaptive creatures. But sometimes the ways we’ve coped and survived—the stories we tell ourselves, the relationships we create, the behaviors that get us through the day—no longer work for us. Therapy offers a place to explore, imagine, and practice new ways of thinking, feeling, and being in the world. Strategies from mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, and narrative approaches to therapy can be helpful as we do this work together, depending on your unique history and situation. My job is to work in partnership with you, to listen to and reflect your wisdom, and to support you in creating the life and relationships that you want and deserve.

As a social worker, I’m especially aware of how culture and society both enable and limit our choices in life: often, our “problems” are the result of poverty, oppression, or powerlessness, and not the fault of our own personal failings. As we work together to imagine and practice new ways of thinking, feeling, and being, we also can begin to imagine and practice new ways of being in relationships and in community with one another. In this way, I see therapy as deeply political, with the potential to be radically transformative.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.

At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are:

$80 for individuals
$100 for couples/families.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect of one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

If you are an OHP client, our contract does not allow us to charge for missed appointments, but we are unable to hold appointment space after two missed/late cancelled appointments.

Bio: As a social worker, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and groups including activists, college and graduate students, homeless and formerly-homeless clients, immigrant and refugee clients, LGBTQ and non-binary clients, and survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. I strive to be trauma-informed, body-positive, and anti- oppressive as I work with folks experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma and its aftermath, addiction/recovery, chronic illness or disability, relationship stress (including poly relationships), sexual or gender identity concerns, life transitions, loss, or a general desire for more meaning, connection, and understanding in life.

I have a Master’s in Social Work from Portland State University and a PhD from the Graduate Institute of Liberal Arts at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. I became a social worker after several years in higher education and museums, where my research and teaching focused on feminist and queer social movements, political theory, and racial equity. I love social work and am consistently humbled by the courage, creativity, and resilience of the clients with whom I work.

Licensure: I am a registered Clinical Social Work Associate in the State of Oregon under clinical supervision by Dr. Adrienne Wolmark, LCSW. I abide by the Oregon Code of Ethics for Regulated Social Workers.
