Bax Wilder White, CSWA

Individual and Relationship Therapist
Philosophy and Approach:

I use a client-centered approach that is rooted in people’s inherent ability to heal and overcome obstacles. I strive to listen without judgment and validate your experience while supporting your process of exploration and change. I am collaborative and approach our work together with warmth, respect, authenticity, and humor.

Our work happens in the context of broader cultural, political, and economic systems that impact individual well-being as well as the health of our communities. I work hard to maintain an anti-oppressive practice. I welcome feedback from clients about their own experience with power and privilege as it relates to our work together. I hold space for healing and self-discovery within these contexts. I look forward to every new client I have the honor of working with in this process.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.

At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are: $80 for individuals and $100 for relationship counseling.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect of one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

If you are an OHP client, our contract does not allow us to charge for missed appointments and we would not want to, but we are unable to hold a regular appointment space after two missed/late cancelled appointments. You can, however, schedule into cancellation spots on your clinician’s schedule.

Bio:  I have been engaged in social change and social service work in the nonprofit sector for the past 20 years. I have been a racial justice organizer for the past decade. Through my own writing and my work with Write Around Portland I believe in the power of sharing our stories—and in the importance of having space to rewrite our stories. I have found the most impactful work and the work I enjoy most is building relationships with people to support individual and systemic change.

I have a Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University. I have experience working with youth experiencing homelessness and college students seeking counseling, with a particular focus on working with folks on the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum. I have training and experience in motivational interviewing, gender affirming care, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, polyvagal theory, the developmental model of intercultural sensitivity, internal family systems, and embodied social activism.

I am a white, middle class, queer, nonbinary clinician. I welcome feedback about the ways my identities impact the therapeutic relationship and experience. I am also intentional about doing my own ongoing work.

Licensure: I am a Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) registered with the Oregon Board of Social Workers. I abide by the guidelines and code of ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) which can be found at: https://www.socialworkers.org/About/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics/Code-of-Ethics-English. I am under the clinical supervision of Heather Sutch, LCSW.
