Caitlin McDaniel, Student Intern

Individual and Relationship Counselor
Philosophy and Approach:
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process that promotes connection and strength in client’s lives. I also believe that clients are the experts in their own lives and experiences and I aim to act as a guide to assist in navigating the path to growth and healing. Our thoughts, feelings, and experiences are informed by the systems that surround us, shaping who we are and how we experience the world. I believe that by working collaboratively, therapy can be the tool for change that can help clients develop agency and reauthor their lives to strengthen relationships with themselves and others. My goal is to help support you in achieving your goals, whatever they may be.

I approach therapy through a systemic, social justice, and trauma-informed lens and integrate modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, emotionally-focused therapy, and the application of mindfulness exercises into my work. As a systemic therapist, I recognize that the issues that affect my clients do not just affect them alone. I believe that the members of a client’s system may impact experiences that contribute to the issues that bring them to therapy. I work to assess how partners, family members, friends, or others who are a part of the client system play a role in the patterns that maintain or contribute to the problems that are being faced. I am a therapist that embraces health at every size and sex-positivity; I am also non-monogamy and kink affirming and welcome families of any composition.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.

At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are: $45 for individuals and $65 for relationship counseling.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect of one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

If you are an OHP client, our contract prohibits us from charging for missed appointments, but we are unable to hold appointment space after two missed/late-cancelled appointments.

Bio:  I am in the process of earning a Master’s of Art in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling, with a specialization in sex therapy. My training centers around individual, partner, and family relationships, sexuality and intimacy, gender identity, trauma, life transitions, as well as anxiety and depression. I have previous experience as a behavioral therapist and a conflict resolution counselor and a background working with children, couples, and families.

Licensure:  I am a graduate student intern enrolled in Lewis & Clark College’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. During my internship at Owl’s Nest North, I am under the clinical supervision of Heather Sutch, LCSW. I adhere to the code of ethics set by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and Oregon Licensing Board (OAR chapter 833, division 100).
