Khrystal Johnson, LPC Intern

Individual and Relationship Counselor
Philosophy and Approach: My goal in therapy is to provide you with an  opportunity to reinvent yourself and to find growth through healing and  balance. I strive to create a safe atmosphere that facilitates your  process through open, supportive, and genuine dialogue. I utilize a  diverse and flexible treatment approach that’s down-to-earth and  incorporates various practices tailored to your individual needs and  desires. Therapy occurs through collaboration and connection.

I identify as a Black and Native American woman and draw from my  traditions and practices living on the Umatilla Indian reservation.  Expect some humor, narrative, and a lot of compassion. I believe in  community and connection and that our relationships with our tribes,  environment, friends, family, and selves promote well-being. My practice  emerges from a trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive, relational lens of  empowerment.   My intent is to walk alongside you on your path of  rediscovery.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek  to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current  system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of  Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced  to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so  we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are  experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are  also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.  At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/ out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are: $80 for  individuals and $100 for couples/families.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from  following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect of  one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions cancelled with less than 24  hours notice.  If you are an OHP client, our contract prohibits us from charging for missed appointments, but we are unable to hold appointment space  after two missed/late cancelled appointments.

Bio: I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacific  University. I have received continued education and training in  Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (individual and couples), Cognitive-Behavioral  Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Gottman Marriage Counseling techniques,  Interpersonal Neurobiology, trauma-informed practices, relationship therapy,  and therapy targeting Native populations.

My experience includes working with adolescents, adults, older adults,  families, couples, and clients with alternative relationship structures.  My clinical background includes working within Private Practice, Medical,  Community Mental Health, Inpatient, Crisis centers, and Outpatient clinic  settings. I have experience working with Native populations through  traditional cultural practices living on the reservation as well as  providing therapy at the Native American Rehabilitation Association (NARA).  Before obtaining my master’s in Counseling Psychology, I gained over 10  years of experience working within the realms of social justice, student  leadership, and diversity development.

I have worked with clients around topics of anxiety, stress, anger  management, chronic pain, depression, trauma, intergenerational/historical  trauma, marginalization, relationship issues, life transitions, body-image,  addictions, identity development, oppression, and intersectionality.
