Maddy Gribbon, MSW

Individual and Relationship Therapist
Philosophy and Approach:

I believe in the humanity of each individual and that a therapeutic relationship should be rooted in nonjudgment and an exploration of strengths. My practice as a therapist focuses on seeing a person as a whole with their mind, body, experience, and environment playing into who they are and what we can build together.

I believe that therapy should be client-driven with the therapist as a guide and supporter as we explore the personal experiences, relationships, and wider systems that impact a client’s life. I see incremental change and harm reduction as meaningful to growth. I work with individuals to disentangle them from the idea of striving for perfection. Instead, we work to embrace ongoing tools and resources for improving and maintaining their mental health.

Asking for help with mental health can be challenging, and I honor the risk my clients take in joining me in a therapeutic relationship. Your experiences and emotions are valid and will play a central role in the work we do together.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.

At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are: $80 for individuals and $100 for couples/families.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect of one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

If you are an OHP client, our contract does not allow us to charge for missed appointments and we would not want to, but we are unable to hold a regular appointment space after two missed/late cancelled appointments. You can, however, schedule into cancellation spots on your clinician’s schedule.

Bio: I am originally from Portland and completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon in Family & Human Services. I knew that I loved working with people and wanted to explore various ways to do so. Over the next decade, I worked with adults with intellectual disabilities, in case management with folks experiencing incarceration, and as a therapist for people facing substance use disorders. I lived in Washington, DC, Missoula, MT, and New Orleans, LA and eventually graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with my Master of Social Work.

My various experiences have taught me the importance of human connection and creating nonjudgmental and supportive therapeutic relationships. I have training and experience in motivational interviewing, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness. I am committed to continued learning and training and believe that therapy oriented toward anti-oppression requires ongoing learning on my part.

Licensure: I am a Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) registered with the Oregon Board of Social Workers. I abide by the guidelines and code of ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) which can be found at: https://www.socialworkers.org/About/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics/Code-of-Ethics-English. I am under the clinical supervision of Heather Sutch, LCSW.
