Mabel Vautravers, Student Intern

Individual and Relationship Therapist
Philosophy and Approach: I believe that we are all deeply influenced by the stories we tell about ourselves and each other. These stories can be protective, generative, true even – but we can also tell stories that are limiting, debilitating, and distorted. I want to work with you to understand what stories you tell about yourself or your relationship and to help you tell the stories that are empowering as well as authentic to your experience.

These stories don’t usually come from nowhere. We’re all a part of systems that tell us a lot about who we are and who we should be. Part of detangling the narratives we hold is recognizing how who-we-are has been shaped by our families, experiences, histories, cultures and communities.

Sliding Scale Fee Structure: Owls’ Nest North is committed to making services accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay. We seek to catch those who fall through the cracks of care in our current system. My sliding scale is determined by the current fee schedule of Owls’ Nest North. If you are un- or under-insured and therefore forced to pay out-of-pocket, please let me know prior to our first session, so we can determine your eligibility for a sliding scale fee. If you are experiencing difficulty navigating the new healthcare system, we are also happy to support and advocate for you in becoming insured.

At this time, I am only available to see OHP subscribers and cash/out-of-pocket payers. My fees with a cash-pay discount are: $45 for individuals and $65 for relationship counseling.

Cancellations: Occasionally life intervenes and prevents us from following through with our commitments. I trust our mutual respect for one another’s time. As such, it is our policy to collect my full session fee for no-shows and sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice.

If you are an OHP client, our contract does not allow us to charge for missed appointments and we would not want to, but we are unable to hold a regular appointment space after two missed/late canceled appointments. You can, however, schedule into cancellation spots on your clinician’s schedule.

Bio: After many years of working in the human services advocating for tenants, caring for group home youth, and providing services for houseless folks in downtown Portland, I’m now training at a Master’s of Social Work program through Smith College in order to better serve my communities. Having grown up working class, I am keenly aware of the lack of accessible mental health resources that are out there. It’s important to me that I can contribute to a rising tide of peer-oriented clinicians. I have lived in Portland since I was a teenager and I am committed to giving back to the place I’ve called home for fifteen years.

Before I came to social work I was a practicing astrologer for eight years and my clinical practice is deeply informed by the principles that underpin my astrological work: the power of storytelling, attention to time, place, seasons, and histories, and a conviction that everyone has unique strengths and challenges that need to be tended to with grace.

When I’m not working, I like long distance driving, making little crafts, spending time with plants, and playing high-contact sports. I’m a trained herbalist and my favorite place in the world is in a garden. Plants have taught me a lot about the resilience of creatures to survive through the harshest conditions. I strive to show up as I am in the therapy room, with humor, presence, and a real exuberance to start a new journey with my clients.

Licensure: I am a graduate student intern enrolled in Smith College’s Master’s of Social Work program. During my internship at ONN, I am under the clinical supervision of Maddy Gribbon, LCSW. I abide by the guidelines and code of ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) which can be found at: https://www.socialworkers.org/About/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics/Code-of-Ethics-English.
